Coronavirus Disease 2019

World Hope International COVID-19 Response

World Hope International COVID-19 Response

COVID-19 is a strand of coronaviruses which can cause illness in humans or animals and was unknown prior to the recent outbreak in Wuhan, China (December 2019). While several of the strands can cause infections such as a common cold or lead to diseases with more serious health implications, COVID-19 mostly severely affects older persons and persons with pre-existing medical conditions. The virus has spread voraciously across the world, impacting over 70 countries and tens of thousands of people as of March 5th.

World Hope International is actively working to prevent and mitigate the outbreak of COVID-19 in our international offices.

We are also preparing a community-driven response in the USA as quarantines continue and are expected to grow.

By making a donation, you are helping to stop the spread of the disease around the world and also in your own community and you are also helping us help those who are sick and struggling.

Thank you for your generosity!

#COVID19 has reached the island of La Gonâve, Haiti, unfortunately. That's why, in addition to supplying the only local hospital with reliable, clean water from our GivePower solar-powered desalination water farm, World Hope has also supported surge healthcare workers who are now hard at work combatting the disease and caring for those affected.

One of our #HealthcareHeroes in Haiti!

Combating Coronavirus: Not only is World Hope continuing the distribution of hand washing stations to communities in Liberia, but our drilling teams have pivoted their efforts to rehabilitate broken down wells around the countryside so everyone can access clean water and stop the spread.

It has been a pleasure to partner with GivePower and WISH - West Indies Self Help to build a solar powered water desalination plant in La Gonâve, Haiti. The plant started making and selling water for the community this week, making 20,000 gallons of water per day from salt water using a Spectra Watermakers LB-20000 reverse osmosis water treatment system, 50 kW solar panels and TeslaPowerwall. Not only will the community now have a reliable access to clean water, but the only local hospital on La Gonâve will have reliable clean water, too - which is always vital but becomes even more critical during a pandemic.

Our CHAMPS team was asked by the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health to serve as the primary partner supporting a COVID-19 response in the Bombali District, supporting a population of 700,000. Among other things, we are now providing surveillance strength by employing our trained staff to investigate all cases of potential COVID-19, monitor all facilities, place positive case families and contacts in quarantine, monitor those in quarantine, facilitate testing, provide technical health support at isolation centers, and help to provide technical support in establishing the treatment centers in Bombali.

Our Cambodia team went house to house in March to have COVID awareness conversations in their communities. Cambodia’s poorest will not have access to good health care when COVID-19 comes to those areas. No one would even expect tests, treatment and ventilation. #COVIDConversations will save lives!

We've produced an online platform called “Get-Support," powered by Disaster Tech, where users in communities can submit and respond to requests for assistance from each other. We'll be rolling it out soon - stay tuned.
