World Hope International is responding to the damage left by the hurricanes by sending relief supplies to those most in need. As it can be extremely difficult for displaced communities to find clean water during this time, WHI is also deploying water treatment equipment to meet critical and lifesaving needs.
As many of us were awaiting the results of the US presidential elections on November 3rd, 2020, Hurricane Eta (Category 4 storm and the 13th hurricane of the 2020 hurricane season in the Atlantic), began its destructive tear into several countries in Central America causing landslides, flooding, death, and the displacement of thousands. The impact of the hurricane has manifested itself significantly in Honduras (3 million affected), Guatemala (900,000 affected), and Nicaragua as reports have shown cases of sexual and gender-based violence, limited access to and availability of clean/safe water, food, and inadequate means to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Nicaragua is also currently experiencing a Category 5 storm, Hurricane Iota, that will certainly wreak havoc on top of the effects left by Hurricane Eta.
